Methodists and Thespians attacked each other for most of the second half of the 18th century. The famous preacher George Whitefield was a particular target for satire, and he and Methodists were wickedly portrayed on stage by such writers as Samuel Foote. Ian Small (Chairman of the York Georgian Society) will explore how the two sides locked horns and how the theatre fought Methodism for the souls of the British people!
