The Rivals

The Rivals

Join us for an evening of Georgian intrigue and romance, as the University of York's Drama Society premiere a new and innovative staging of R. B. Sheridan's classic comedy The Rivals (1775).

Will the dashing Captain Jack Absolute win the hand of Lydia Languish? Or will her aunt, the loquacious Mrs. Malaprop, intercede with her infamous verbal gaffs?

The performance begins with a short introduction from Dr Chloe Wigston Smith (University of York) on the lively audiences of the Georgian playhouse. Step back in time to experience one of the most popular and dynamic plays from Georgian Theatre Royal’s storied past.
